Didn't you just put in a new motor in that thing a few weeks ago?

Yeah, It'll have to be a bit of a story. I bought a built loaded block that was all shiny and brand new. After tearing it apart now, we found that whoever built it didn't have much clue about what they were doing.
So this time we're building the whole thing ourselves from the bottom up. We'll know everything's correctly done now. And I'm beefing up all the internals while I'm at it
2013 sti nitrided crank. All cosworth rod and main bearings. Then I'll be able to keep my good pistons, cosworth gaskets and arp head studs. It'll still be stock power, but goddamnit this thing shouldn't ever have to be rebuilt again.

The fact that it was built to stock has nothing to do with its blowing and everything to do with the low quality job of the dealer who built the shortblock.
So thanks for your sympathy.

Way to be a dick. I suppose every time you buy something like a refurbished cell phone the first thing you do is open it up, grab an oscilloscope, multimeter, and a microscope and check every trace on the PCB to make sure they aren't broken or damaged?

I was in no way trying to be a dick. I'm sorry it sounded that way. I guess when I read it again it does sound that way but it wasn't my intention.
I meant building the blown motor that was in already in the car rather than buying a "built" shortblock that turned out to be a dud.
I tend to have little trust in any "builder" like the saying goes: "if you want it done right, do it yourself"

I'm just saying that its stupid to rebuild an engine to stock when its pulled. Upgrading gives more power potential and better reliability. Also i know a few people with older sti's that were stock and they blew them up

You can do that when you buy your own STI.

The blown motor I bought it with was locked up. All the internals got way too hot and were unusable.
The built loaded shortblock came with the rebuild kit including all the new oil pumps, oil coolers, water pump, all gaskets, ARP head studs, Cosworth gaskets, etc. The works. So even with this mishap, and the other block I bought (in case I found another sti), I'm still coming in under what it would've cost buying brand new from Subaru.
You don't buy a 80k mile used car and then completely disassemble everything to make sure every piece is right. I went on the assumption that a shortblock built with brand new internals by the Subaru of Wichita dealer would be a quality product. Clearly I was mistaken.
Oppo normally is a fairly nice community, but the consensus I've received so far is that it is either my own fault for not completely disassembling my new shortblock, buying all new gaskets and bolts, just to check that the product was quality OR that it was my fault for built the engine back to nearly stock specification, which once again, is irrelevant to the diagnosis of it's failure.
So for any of you who think I did this the wrong way, I implore you to go take $1500+ of your own money and go buy a replacement engine. Then get the wrenches out and start tearing it apart even though you believe it to be in good condition. Once your done and the engine looks exactly the same as when you bought it, let me know if you think that was worth all of your time or not.
